Tax notices - who's right?

If you get what looks like a tax demand in the next few days, don't panic. It's merely a statement of what the taxman thinks you owe them or that he owes you.
If you are one of our clients, simply send what you receive to us and we will check it for you.

I got this email recently from the revenues & benefits office in response to a request for a council tax refund:
“Thank you for your email. We will try to answer your enquiry within 10 working days of receiving your email.
However, at times when we are experiencing high volumes of correspondence we may not be able to meet this standard.”
